Happy Friday, my friend. I hope you are doing well.
As you know, I’ve been making quite a few new colorways of late, so I thought it was about time I showed you some photos of what I like to call “yarn pairings”–different colorways that would work well together. Each colorway is available on its own, so you can pair them as you see fit.
All of the ones I am about to show you are on either Sock Perfection or Sparkly Merino Sock. I’ll include a list of some pattern possibilities at the end.
First up is this rather unlikely pair made of Sedona and Wild Rose on Sock Perfection:
They have the orange and copper tones in common. The new Breathe and Hope pattern from Casapinka could be a great choice for this.
Next up is a great trio dyed on my Sock Perfection base. From left to right, the colorways are Verdigris, Rivendell, and North Wind.
At the bottom of this newsletter, I’m going to include a list of 3-skein fade patterns I think would look great with these three and any of the many sets of three.
This next one is a particular favorite of mine. On the left is The Hands of the King. In the middle is Turquoise. I have to apologize because I can’t seem to get the Turquoise yarn accurate through the camera, and it’s making me a little crazy. It’s really much bluer and less green than it looks on my screen anyway. The colorway on the right is brand new this week. It’s called Dreams of the Sea. I dyed all of these on Sparkly Merino Sock.
Next up is a super purple set. From left to right the colorways are Perfect Purple, Purple Haze, and Purple Iris. I dyed all of them on Sock Perfection.
You are probably going to laugh when you hear this, but I have been making the Purple Haze colorway for a few years without realizing that it’s a drug reference. I’m blushing a little as I write that because chances are I was the only one who didn’t know that.
The next trio is No Shrinking Violet, Smaug’s Treasure, and Kristin Lavransdatter. I dyed all of these on Sparkly Merino Sock, and I really like them together, don’t you?
This next trio also includes No Shrinking Violet along with It’s Complicated and Northanger Abbey. I just happen to have Northanger Abbey in stock and not Little Black Dress right now, but either one would work perfectly.
Here’s another one I especially like. From left to right there’s Monet’s Cathedral, Enchanted Forest, and Annunciation Blue, all on Sparkly Merino Sock. Enchanted Forest is another new colorway as of this week. It’s a bit outside my usual color “zone,” and I really like it. I may have to nab a skein for myself.
Next up is a fun, dramatic trio made fromJavert, Murder Mystery, and Northanger Abbey on Sock Perfection. Come to think of it, they all go well thematically as well as in terms of color, don’t they? Again, I used Northanger Abbey because I have it in stock, but Little Black Dress would work just as well.
The difference is that Little Black Dress is simply black while Northanger Abbey has multiple layers of color with enough black on top so the other colors just peak through.
Next up is one I never thought about putting together until yesterday. From left to right, the colorways are Durin’s Bane, Kristin Lavransdatter, and Lilac. I dyed them all on Sparkly Merino Sock.
I have just one more set of three and then a couple sets of five to show you. The next trio contains Arwen, The Hands of the King, and Annunciation Blue, all dyed on Sock Perfection.
Here is a set of five colorways that look great together. I dyed them all on Sock Perfection, and from left to right the colorways are Perfect Purple, Purple Haze, Monet, Spring Wedding, and Ice.
This last one is a lot of fun. It’s not a strict fade, but it’s really intriguing. From left to right the colors are Cosette, Jean Valjean, and Javert (my three Les Misérables colorways), It’s Complicated, and Northanger Abbey. I dyed all of them on Sock Perfection.
This last one has a distinctly ocean feel to it, don’t you think? These are also on Sock Perfection, and from left to right the colorways are Ice, North Wind, Arwen, The Hands of the King, and Annunciation Blue.
I promised a list of pattern ideas. This is a list I came up with for my fade sets, and I would be happy to share it with you. These are all intended for three-skein sets. I haven’t used them all by a long shot, but they are all on my personal list of patterns I would like to use.

(I recommend using one or two semi-solid colorways for this pattern rather than all variegated colorways.)
As I mentioned, these are all three-skein patterns. If you have a favorite sweater or shawl pattern that would be great for a five-skein set, please do let me know, and I’ll share it next time around. Both knit and crochet patterns would be super.
I should also mention that I still have a few skeins of Super Sport and Quick and Cozy Bulky on a 20% off sale. I will be bringing back the Quick and Cozy Bulky in the fall. I’m not sure whether I’ll be bringing back Super Sport or not. It’s a lovely, soft base with great stitch definition, but there hasn’t been a ton of interest in it.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and that things are able to start opening up a bit where you are. Stay well!
