This week I’m having a huge sale to say thank you to all the moms whose love makes the world a better place. I also have a request for test knitters to share with you.
A Tribute to My Mom
My own mom passed away ten years ago, and I especially want to express my thanks for her this Mothers’ Day. Her name was Suzanne, and I still miss our long conversations about everything under the sun. I always knew I could go to her with joys and problems, and I would receive sympathy and wisdom in return. I don’t think I really knew what a treasure she was until I had my own children.
Not only was she a great mom and an amazing lady, but she also taught me to value creativity. She introduced me to the fiber arts at a young age when she taught me needlepoint and knitting, and she taught me her love of music and literature too.
She and my dad ran a stained glass business together after my dad retired from the Navy, and I basically grew up in their shop, surrounded by color and the creative process. I got to see the hard work that went into each stained glass window and lamp and how they kept honing their skills and never stopped learning even though they were winning awards and teaching classes. My mom also gave me the spinning wheel I use to this day and encouraged me when I wanted to learn to weave and spin 20 years ago now. So I just want to say thanks, Mom.

Mothers’ Day Sale
To celebrate Mothers’ Day, I’m having a very big sale, and I’m starting it today so you have plenty of time before the big day to get and/or give what you order. Just use the coupon code THANKSMOM2023 or click on this link to take 20% off almost everything. Not only is all my in-stock yarn on sale, but I’m even including my art batts, which is something I do very rarely.
All in all, the sale includes….
Basically the sale includes everything except my clubs and dyed to order yarn.
Please do keep in mind that while I usually ship in-stock yarn the next business day, the art batts take up to a week to make and will probably arrive after Mothers’ Day.
The sale begins today and runs through May 14th. However, I’m going to give you and all of my newsletter subscribers a head start. I won’t mention the sale on my website or on social media until tomorrow so you all get first dibs.
If you would prefer to get a Purple Lamb gift card so your favorite fiber artists can choose for themselves, I’m offering 10% off those too! Just use the coupon code GIFTCARDFORMOM now through the 14th.

A Call for Test Knitters
I am so happy to tell you about the collaboration I am doing with knitwear designer, Deborah Bowanko. This lovely lady has designed a beautiful new crescent-shaped shawl pattern that calls for one skein of a sock-weight assigned pooling colorway and two matching minis Here is a closeup of the shawl using Crocuses in Snow with Eggplant minis:
Here you can see the beautiful edge too:
Debbi is looking for some test knitters before she publishes the pattern. Here is what she is looking for in her own words:
After testing Carla’s lovely “Long Way Round” assigned pooling pattern I had an idea for another assigned pooling design. I designed a crescent shawl with elongated stitches that are slanted through the use of slip stitches. The shawl begins with an eyelet lace shoulder section, followed by a series of stockinette stitches with the assigned pooling design. It is finished with a feather and fan lace border and a faux i-cord bind-off.
This pattern is more of a recipe as any section can be made as large or as small as desired. The assigned pooling stitches can be beaded or left unbeaded and the border can also be elongated.
I am looking for approximately six testers who would be interested in testing this pattern with a completion date of June 15th. I would like the testers to review:
- The accuracy of the pattern
- Proper use of grammar
- Any sections that need clarification or are difficult to understand
My version of the “recipe” used one fingering-weight skein of Carla’s Assigned Pooling beauties (Sock Perfection) (100g/450 yds) and two mini skeins (20g/90 yds) of the coordinated Assigned Pooling solid color for the border. Another option is two full skeins of Carla’s Sock Perfection, one in Assigned Pooling and one in a coordinated color. The eyelet lace section and the border section can be worked in a solid color for a different look. Only the middle stockinette section requires assigned pooling yarn. Please send me any questions you might have before making your decision.
If you are interested, you can reply to my request via email (dbowanko@msn.com) or through Ravelry at “yarnoholic52.” Please include:
- Your contact information
- Knitting experience level (this is no less than a “Intermediate Beginner” level)
- Your testing experience and whether or not you have previously worked any Assigned Pooling patterns
All successful testers will receive a copy of the final published pattern.
Please reply no later by Monday, May 8, 2023. You will be notified via the contact information you provide no later than Tuesday, May 9th.
Thank you,
Debbi
I (Carla) will also happily offer each of the test knitters a discount on yarn for the project.
Fresh from the Dye Pots
This week, I dyed up Crab Nebula. Here it is on Squiggle Sock:
I also dyed up Copper Roof as an assigned pooling colorway for the first time. When I created Copper Roof, I was thinking of an old copper roof turning from the original copper to that beautiful blue-green patina. I dyed one quarter of the skein copper and three quarters a beautiful teal. Here it is on Sock Perfection.
Wouldn’t Copper Roof and Crab Nebula look great together?
I also dyed up a one-of-a-kind colorway called Rhapsody on So Silky Sock. Here is Rhapsody:
Once again, you can use the coupon code THANKSMOM2023 to take 20% off almost everything in my shop, or you can just click on this link to have the coupon code added to your shopping cart ahead of time. I hope you find something you that will bring you joy!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend and a lovely Mothers’ Day next week.
