You remember the old saying related to what a bride should bring to her wedding? “Something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue.” Well, this week has been a productive one in the studio, and when I sat down to plan out this week’s newsletter, I realized that the colorways we dyed up fit that old saying perfectly. I have four new (and not so new) colorways to tell you about this week.
Something Old
This week I dyed up Purple Delight for the first time in several years. Purple Delight is a splashed and speckled colorway with Lilac, Burgundy Rose, and several shades of dark purple. It’s similar to Phantom of the Opera but a little less dramatic because it doesn’t have the dark red that Phantom of the Opera has. Purple Delight goes beautifully with lots of different colorways. I dyed it on several different colorways, and it is also available as art batts. Here it is on Stained Glass Sock:

Something New
I am so excited to share a new colorway that my son Joseph created. His inspiration was a sunset over the sea with colors from both the water and the sky. He dyed it in thirds with one third showing the blues and greens of the sea, one third showing the fuchsias and oranges of the sunset, and the third in between showing the sunset reflected on the waves. It’s just gorgeous! I’m allowed to say that because it was his design and not mine. He’s working full time these days, so I don’t get his help in the studio as often as I would like, but he really does have a gift for dyeing, and maybe in another twenty years or so he’ll be the one to take over Purple Lamb.
Anyway, here is Caribbean Sunset on Sparkly Merino Sock:
I was getting ready to knit a sample of it on Squoosh DK, and here it is all balled up:

Y’all better grab these quick before I do!

Something Borrowed
For the Eight Days of Easter kits this year, I created a new colorway that was just between chartreuse and sage or kiwi and lime. It’s a delightful colorway that is bright without being overpowering. When I decided to “borrow” the colorway from the kit and turn it into a regular colorway, I had trouble coming up with a name and got lots of great ideas from many of you on Facebook and Instagram. In the end, I went with a suggestion from one of my daughters and called it Matcha Latte. It really is a perfect match for the colorway.
I had actually never had Matcha tea or a Matcha Latte before, so I had to try one to go with the yarn and the name, and I must admit it was delicious. Here is Matcha Latte on Sock Perfection:
…and here is what Matcha tea looks like:
Matcha is young ground green tea leaves, and you actually consume the powdered leaves unlike ordinary tea. It is full of antioxidants and really good for you. It’s also just really good. Isn’t it a perfect match for the colorway?

Something Blue
The last colorway fits the “something blue.” I used Georgia O’Keeffe’s painting, Blue and Green Music, as my club colorway inspiration back in June of 2022. I love the idea of this visual representation of music, don’t you? It was a favorite of many club members at the time. I decided to dye it up for the shop. Here is the painting:

Here is a scarf I wove using Blue and Green Music for the warp and Freedom Blue for the weft:
I hope you enjoy all four new colorways. The listings for each one include yarn pairing ideas so you can get ideas for what goes with what.
