Solitary Skein Sale!

In spite of the fact that February is actually the shortest month of the year, it always feels like the longest because it’s the month when I am anxiously awaiting the coming of spring. Do you feel that way too?

To make the month go a little faster, I’m having a solitary skein sale. Solitary skeins are the last skeins from a batch. I typically dye up four skeins at a time, and I prefer to wait until all four have sold before dyeing up a fresh batch of the same colorway on a given yarn base, so we can help each other out with this sale. Here are a few of the skeins included in the sale:

Use the coupon code SOLITARYSKEIN15 to take 15% off all the solitary skeins. Click on this link to see all the Solitary Skeins together and add the coupon code to your cart. The sale begins today (Friday) and ends on Monday at midnight.

I also added a few solitary hand-dyed silk scarves and silk hankies for spinning too.

A New Pattern – and a New Designer

My daughter Elizabeth just published her very first pattern on Ravelry. It’s called Wiglaf, named after a character from Beowulf. It’s a beautiful fingering-weight scarf made with two colorways.

I love the color play on this, don’t you? She used two skeins of So Silky Sock for this. For the scarf she made, the colorways are Mithril and The Winedark Sea, but you could use any sock-weight yarn and any two contrasting semi-solid colorways.

Here is Elizabeth wearing the scarf:

Fresh from the Dye Pots

This week my sister is back home with us after her hip surgery. She is doing as well as anyone can after a fractured hip I think, but I’m doing a bit more juggling than usual. That means I haven’t dyed quite as much as usual. I have dyed two assigned pooling colorways–Emerald and Amethyst and It’s Complicated.

Here is Emerald and Amethyst on Sparkly Merino Sock:

I used this colorway for my Knitting by the Pool Ponchette pattern.

Here is It’s Complicated on Buttery Soft DK:

I love the way the speckles look on Buttery Soft DK–more like an Impressionist painting.

Eight Days of Easter Coming Up

I’m going to be setting up a preorder for this year’s Eight Days of Easter mini skein kits soon. These are similar to Advent kits but not nearly as big.

I know exactly what I want to do for the colorways, but I’m still finalizing the pattern details. Here’s the photograph of spring tulips I’ll be using as colorway inspiration:

The kit will include eight 20 gram mini skeins, and depending on which pattern I end up using it may also include a full-sized skein.

Instead of plastic eggs, this year I’ll be packaging the mini skeins in little cardboard boxes like I do for my Advent calendars. That way I can use less plastic and save some time too.

I think that’s everything for this week. Stay warm and stay well!
