Good morning and happy Friday! I have so many beautiful projects to share with you for this week’s Show and Tell newsletter!
November Club Colorway
Before we get started, I wanted to let you know the results of last week’s informal poll. I was having a tough time deciding between two lovely paintings to use as inspiration for the November club colorway, so I asked all of you to vote. The Afremov painting, “The Freshness of Evening in the Evening,” won by a large number of votes, so I’ll be using that painting as my inspiration for November. Here it is once more:
For those of you who voted for Lois Jones’ “Hong Kong, La Nuit,” don’t worry. I’ll use that as my inspiration in the spring. The thing I heard most often from those of you who voted for the Afremov painting that you prefer bright colors for winter months, so I’ll save “Hong Kong” for spring or early summer.
Show and Tell
Now onto the really fun part. I love sharing your beautiful creations, and I hope each one provides inspiration for a new project for each of you reading this. This month we have so many beautiful shawls, and you’ll see the work of a few great designers several times. Here we go!
Let’s start with Amanda. She spun the yarn herself using two of my Lothlorien art batts. Then she knit the shawl, using the the Simplette pattern by Minja. Isn’t that beautiful and just so perfect for fall?
Next up is this beautiful lace shawl made by Connie. She used the Afternoon Tea pattern by Helen Stewart, and the yarn is The Hands of the King on Sparkly Merino Sock.
Next we have this lovely crocheted hat and cowl made by Donna. She used Kim Guzman’s Elegant Hat pattern for the hat and created her own cowl pattern! The colorways are Arwen and Van Gogh’s Starry Night on Sparkly Merino Sock.
This next beautiful shawl was made by Fran. She used my club colorway inspired by Lois Jones’ painting, “Fishermen at Port-Au-Prince.” She used the Beautiful Day pattern by NCL Knits.
I love the big eyelets and the way the colors play together, don’t you?
Next up is Jenny’s amazing Stephen West’s Painting Bricks shawl. The colorways she used are Monarch Butterfly, Forest Floor, Sleepy Hollow, The Hands of the King, and Little Black Dress.
I love the way the colorways Jenny chose work together, don’t you?
Next up we have a lovely new WIP by Pat. The pattern is Casapinka’s Breathe and Hope shawl, and she chose Enchanted Forest and my new Sage colorway on So Silky Sock to make it.
Next we have a beautiful lacy shawl made by Michele. It’s Helen Stewart’s pattern, and Michele used Enchanted Forest and Paris for this shawl.
The next creation I want to show you is Shirley’s lovely shawl made from Lisa Mutch’s Nimbus pattern. She used Black Butterfly to make it.
Next up is a project of mine in the making. It isn’t even quite to the stage of a work in progress yet–more of a plan. All I’ve done so far is set up my big loom for the first time since we moved and make the warp chains. I wanted to use the crazy wild art yarn I made during Spin Together, so that is the focus. I made this yarn from my Ocean at Night art batts. I added extra kid mohair locks as I spun the yarn. Then I chain-plied it, and then I super-coiled the chain-plied yarn. In the end, what would have been close probably about 300 yards as a singles yarn is now only 14 yards of fun!
I’m going to be weaving a shrug using Ice on Stained Glass Sock as the warp, Monet’s Cathedral on Stained Glass Fingering as the weft, and the Ocean at Night yarn as a design element. I’m not sure what else to call it, but my plan is to create a wide curve going up and down the back of the shrug or possibly a double-helix if I can pull it off. I’ve never done anything like this, so I hope I am actually able to turn the idea in my head into reality.
The next lovely shawl I have to show you is by Michele. She used Helen Stewart’s Curling Mist pattern and my Seashell yarn colorway. Doesn’t it look soft and lovely and so easy to wear any time of year?
Next up is one more WIP by Pat. It’s Casapinka’s pattern called Your Slip Is Showing, and she is using Eggplant, Annunciation Blue, Bohemian Rhapsody, Burgundy Rose, and Turquoise too. I love all of these fabulous slip stitch patterns that are so popular right now, don’t you?
Next up is a beautiful shawl by Connie. She used Helen Stewart’s Stillness Shawl pattern with Annunciation Blue, Contentment, and Arwen, all on Sparkly Merino Sock.
Isn’t that stunning?
I also get to share another beautiful crocheted shawl by Donna. The pattern is called The Blubb, and it’s by Müllerei Handarbeitsallerlei. Donna used my Eight Days of Easter mini-skein kit to make this.
I’ll leave you with just one more. This is Pat’s Snark-O-Meter by Casapinka. It really does have some of everything and looks like so much fun to knit and to wear! Pat used my So Silky Sock yarn base for this with The Hands of the King, Mint Julep, Unicorn, Phantom of the Opera, a little of Turquoise.
I certainly hope you enjoy seeing these projects as much as I do and that you find inspiration for your next project. Thank you so much to everyone who shared their projects with all of us!
Please don’t hesitate to send me photos anytime. I’ll save them up for the next Show and Tell newsletter with gratitude.
New in the Shop
Before I go, I wanted to mention that all the Advent calendars are on their way. They were so much fun to make, but I’m also glad to get back to the “regularly scheduled” yarn and fiber. In fact, I have a few colorways fresh from the dye pots.
I dyed up Lothlorien for the first time in a really long time and for the first time ever on Stained Glass Sock. Here that is:
I also dyed up Beautiful Universe on eight (!) different yarn bases this week. Here it is on Stained Glass Sock:
I also just listed a few skeins of Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Annunciation Blue, and I’ll have Lizzie on So Silky Sock in the shop soon too. Just take a look at the New This Month section of my shop to see them all.
Have a wonderful weekend, and stay well!
