Good morning, and happy Friday to you! Today I wanted to show you some beautiful projects to inspire your next project. I also wanted to show you what happens when you knit an assigned pooling colorway for a non-assigned pooling pattern, show you what I’ve dyed this week, and give you the link to two extra Eight Days of Easter kits.
Show and Tell
Let’s start with the Show and Tell projects. Many thanks to each of you who took the time to send me the photos of your beautiful creations!
This first one is from Amy. She took the 2022 Advent calendar and held it double with Knitpicks Shimmer to make Helen Stewart’s Habitation Throw. Isn’t it gorgeous?
Next up is this lovely scarf that Caroline made using Beautiful Universe on Sparkly Merino Sock. The pattern is called the Sophie Scarf, and she held the yarn double. Here it is from the edge:
…and here is Caroline’s scarf laid out:
Next up is Denise’s amazing shawl. This is Westknits Aurora Cabin Shawl, and my jaw dropped when I saw it! Denise used Phantom of the Opera, Lilac, Sunflower, Annunciation Blue, and Burgundy Rose in a combination of Sparkly Merino Sock and Sock Perfection. Here’s the whole shawl all finished:
…and here’s a closeup while Denise was working on it:
Next up are some beautiful caps that Karyn made. She has been undergoing cancer treatment and wanted some soft caps for after chemo. Her doctor said she is doing really well thank God! This one was made with Hope on Buttery Soft DK. She based the cap on one from Knots of Love but added ribbing.
Karyn also made this delightful hat using Paris:
Next up is this beautiful work of art that Kelly created using my Fire and Ice art batt and other materials as well.
Next is one of my own. This is the pattern I recently published (The Long Way Round) knit up on Purple Prism:
I used Super Sport, but the pattern is flexible enough to work with any weight by just adjusting the knitting needle size.
Next up is Mary Anne’s beautiful Cabled Celtic Scarf that she made using Enchanted Forest.
Last but certainly not least is Marilyn’s beautiful Gift of the Mermaid shawl. The pattern is by Lena Mathisson, and Marilyn used used Annunciation Blue and Enchanted Forest on Squoosh DK.
You can see all the beautiful stitch combinations here:
I’m so amazed and astonished by all the beautiful things you make! Thank you for sharing them with all of us!
Assigned Pooling Colorway in Stockinette
As you have probably noticed, I have been a little bit obsessed of late with assigned pooling colorways, but someone asked what happens when you knit “normally” with an assigned pooling colorway, so I decided to knit a simple stockinette hat with the assigned pooling version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Here that is:
I think it turned out nicely knit “normally,” don’t you? I used Freedom Blue for the rim. Here’s a closeup of Starry Night in stockinette:
All this is to say that assigned pooling colorways don’t have to be used only with assigned pooling patterns. They can be used for “ordinary” patterns too.
Fresh from the Dye Pots
Now that I’m done with the Eight Days of Easter kits, I am hoping to get back to dyeing more regular colorways each week. This week, I dyed up Crocuses in Snow, Enchanted Forest, and Little Black Dress.
Crocuses in Snow was inspired by these beautiful flowers that peak their heads up through the snow at the beginning of spring. Here is the assigned pooling version on Super Sport:
Here is my pattern The Long Way Round made with Crocuses in Snow:
I dyed up Crocuses in Snow on lots of different yarn bases.
I also dyed up Little Black Dress for the first time in a long time on Sparkly Merino Sock. Here that is:
I also dyed up Enchanted Forest on lots of different yarn bases. This is one of my personal favorites. Here it is on Stained Glass Sock:
Eight Days of Easter Kits
I got all the Eight Days of Easter preorders sent off, so if you ordered one, be on the lookout for its arrival.
If you were hoping to get one, I am happy to report that I have two extras. These two are all dyed up and ready to go, so I can send them right away and you can still get them in time for Easter. Here’s the link.
I think that’s everything for this week. I’m just about to head into the dye studio to start dyeing up more of A Light in Dark Places. I’ll see you next week.
