Show and Tell – July 2023

Good morning, and happy Friday to you. Today is Show and Tell day where I get to share some beautiful projects to inspire your next project. These are always my favorite newsletters to write because it’s so exciting to see and share what you have created!

Show and Tell

The first project is from Andrea. She used my Bedecked colorway to make these darling socks. Here’s what she said: “I used a basic toe-up sock with a modified shadow wrap heel and a diamond pattern cuff that I made up because I was tired of ribbing.”

The next project is Debbi’s Eight Days of Easter Kit. I love the way she used the colorways! She said she used the same stitch patterns I used but in a boomerang shape–increasing one side while decreasing the other.

The next project is from Fran. She test knit Deborah Bowanko’s Pools of Color pattern using my Indian Jezebel butterfly colorway and the gold yarn from Madelintosh.

As a reminder, Deborah’s KAL in the Never Enough Lace Group on Ravelry begins on August 1st, and I still have lots of kits available.

Next is a delightful photo that Joy sent me. She is a member of my art batt club and also a spinning instructor, and she sent me this photo of her handspun yarn. It looks like yarn lollipops! What could be better?

The next project is this gorgeous shawl made by Katie. It’s Stephen West’s Basketweave Shawl, and she used my Sunflower colorway dyed on So Silky Sock.

The next project is a pair of delightful socks that Meera made using my Starry Night assigned pooling colorway on Sock Perfection. She designed the pattern herself!

Next up is this beautiful shawl made by Sara. She used Casapinka’s Hug Shot pattern and combined Rosy-Fingered Dawn and the club colorway from September inspired by Ghirlandaio’s Leda and the Swan.

Next up is my third and (probably) final sample of my new Knitting by the Pool Ponchette pattern. I had hoped to have this finished before I published the pattern, but life got in the way. That’s okay. I made this one using Garnet and Topaz as the assigned pooling colorway and Topaz as the semi-solid.

I think this version of the Knitting by the Pool Ponchette is so fun and cheerful, don’t you? I made this one a little bigger and actually used 300 yards of the assigned pooling colorway and 335 yards of the semi-solid colorway. It comes down to my elbows.

The last project I want to show you is one that my friend Natalie made for me. At my request, she made a sampler using my Dappled Things colorway dyed in four different ways–planned pooling, splashed and speckled, segmented, and assigned pooling. It’s really quite amazing that the same colors dyed in different ways and knit in different ways can look so different. Here it is with a little info on the dye techniques and stitch patterns used. I thought it might be helpful to see how the different techniques work up.

I am actually just starting to work on a new pattern design inspired by Natalie’s sampler and the butterfly shawl I designed for the Eight Days of Easter kits this year. I’m hoping to have the new pattern done in time for the DFW Fiber Fest in September. It’s going to be a triangular crescent like the butterfly shawl, but it will just use one assigned pooling colorway and one coordinating splashed and speckled or semi-solid colorway with a variety of fun stitch patterns. I’ll tell you more as time goes on.

Fresh from the Dye Pots

I spent most of the week working on the club colorways, but I was also able to dye up Paris and Sapphire Dreams. Here is Paris on Stained Glass Sock:

You don’t have to wait for my next Show and Tell to share your projects with me. Just send them when you think of it! I’m always delighted to see what you’re working on, and I store them up your photos and pattern info as you send them for the next Show and Tell newsletter every couple months.

I think that’s everything for this week. Have a great week. I wouldn’t mind a bit if we could combine fall weather with the slower pace of summer. How about you?
