Good morning and happy Friday to you! I have a few things to talk to you about today. Let’s dive right in!
Some Sets for Andrea Mowry’s Shift Cowl
I had a great response to my Casapinka Slip Shawl sets with several of you asking for me to make more sets, so I decided to make some set for an absolutely stunning pattern–Andrea Mowry’s beautiful Shift cowl. This large cowl is worked flat and seamed. It uses three colorways of sport-weight yarn in a way where all three colorways “play” together. I made 3 different sets for you to choose from.
Here’s set #1 with Rivendell, Galadriel’s Gift, and Ocean at Night on Super Sport:
Here’s Set #2 with Galadriel’s Gift, Monet’s Cathedral, and Ocean at Night:
…and here is set #3 with Monet’s Water Lilies, Freedom Blue, and Monet:
I think my favorite set is set #2. Which one is your favorite? If you’d like to make your own set, just take a look at what I have in Super Sport. You’ll want three colorways that are not too similar but that still have at least 2 or 3 colors in common. I actually interviewed her several years ago. If you are interested, here is the interview.
February Club Colorway
We are moving from the Neoclassical era to the Romantic era this month. It’s interesting how the pendulum swings, isn’t it? From Rococo to Neoclassical and now to Romantic–one extreme to the opposite and back again.
I chose a painting by Ivan Ayvazovsky, an Armenian artist who lived from 1817 to 1900. It’s called The Ninth Wave. Here it is:
Aren’t the colors amazing? Somehow he made the sun so bright I almost have to shade my eyes to look at the painting! If you would like to join one of my yarn or art batt clubs, the deadline to join in time for this colorway is February 1st. You can find out more here.
As I have mentioned, our first grandbaby is due this month, and I’ll be going down to help my daughter when the baby is born, so it is possible that my club colorways may be later than usual. My plan is to get them done as early as possible in anticipation of the baby, but the baby may have other plans. I’ll be sure to let you know if I will be shipping them past the middle of February.
A Few Test Knitters
I created a pattern for a triangular scarf called The Long Way Round, and I could use a couple test knitters to give me feedback on the pattern before I publish it. It is an assigned pooling pattern that uses double-elongated stitches. It just uses one skein of sport-weight yarn, but it is flexible enough to use a different yarn weight. If you are interested in testing it out for me, you’ll need one skein of an Assigned Pooling colorway, and I would be happy to offer you a discount on the yarn as well as the pattern at no cost. I need testers who are on Ravelry and can post their projects there. The deadline for getting photos and feedback to me is February 15th. If you would like to test this for me, please email me.

Fresh from the Dye Pots
This week, I dyed up Phantom of the Opera, Purple Prism, and several butterfly colorways. Here’s Phantom of the Opera on So Silky Sock:
…and here is Purple Prism on Sparkly Merino Sock:
Purple Prism is just like A Light in Dark Places except with a purple background instead of a black one.
I also dyed up several of my butterfly colorways on Stained Glass Sock, so now I have almost all of them in stock again. You can see the whole collection right here. Here are the butterflies that inspired the colorways:
…and here are the colorways themselves:
Coming Up Soon – Eight Days of Easter Kits
I am incredibly excited about this year’s Eight Days of Easter kits. I’m finishing out the last details, but I hope to have them ready for preorder next week. These are like Advent calendars in that the yarn colorways are a surprise, but here is what the yarn and baskets have looked like in past years:
This year is going to be completely different, but I’ll tell you more next week. In the meantime, have a wonderful week, and stay cozy!
