September Show and Tell, a Secret Sale, and the Final Opportunity to Order an Advent Calendar

Good morning and happy Friday to you! This week I get to do my very favorite kind of newsletter–the show and tell variety. I’ll also be sharing a coupon code just for subscribers to use for my Super Sport collection, and I have some fresh-dyed yarn to share with you. Last but not least, I want to give you the final date to order one of my Advent calendars. It’s just a few days away.

Show and Tell

Let’s start with the Show and Tell. It’s always such a joy for me to share your projects–in part because I know how much effort and enjoyment goes into making them and in part because it’s fun for me to see what my yarn and fiber “grow up” to become.

Let’s start with a project from my friend Donna. Donna is a very talented crocheter and the owner of Fig Basket Crochet. As you may have noticed, I love the new assigned pooling trend that has taking the knitting world by storm, but I noticed that there is a dearth of assigned pooling patterns for crocheters. I reached out to Donna to see if she could create just such a design, and she came up with a beautiful shawl pattern. Here it is:

Donna used my Garnet and Topaz colorway on Sparkly Merino Sock. It took 3 skeins, and she is in the process of finalizing the pattern and making a video tutorial for it. I’ll share those with you soon.

The next project I want to share with you is from Kim. She made this amazing shawl using Murder Mystery and Little Black Dress:

The pattern is called Starting with a Granny Shawl by Pat Foster. Isn’t it delightful? The pattern is free on Ravelry. Here’s a closeup of the stitches:

The next project is from Susan. She used Paris on Squoosh DK to create this gorgeous cable-knit hat:

Don’t you just want to reach out and squish it?

Next up is a project of my own. I used a pattern called the Cowl Neck Poncho by Passioned Flower along with a single skein of my Autumn Leaves colorway on Squiggle Sock.

I love the texture of this yarn. I used it to weave a baby blanket for our little grandson, but this is the first time I have gotten to knit with it.

Next up is a beautiful sweater by Leslie. Her work blows me away every time she shares what she has made. She made this sweater of her own design using Sunrise, Sunset on So Silky Sock:

The next project is from Viv. She used Deborah Bowanko’s Pools of Color shawl pattern in my Garnet and Topaz colorway set.

Look at that beautiful lace!

I also wanted to share a before-and-after with you of my own making. Last spring I knit a small poncho called Hugging Again by Diane Augustin. It has great stitch combinations and was a lot of fun to make. I used three colorways of Squoosh DK, and it is soft and lovely to wear. However, even an indie dyer occasionally chooses colorways she doesn’t like together. I felt like the bright pink was just a little too overpowering.

I decided to over-dye the whole thing, but I had to figure out what color I could dye it without turning it into mud. I ended up going with my Renaissance Blue, and I was really pleased with the results. The pink turned purple, the sage turned teal, and the variegated colorway was still variegated but a little more subtle. Here’s how it looks after over-dyeing it:

I like it better. How about you?

That’s the last of the Show and Tell projects this time. I am always excited to see and share what you’re making, so feel free to email me your WIPs and FOs anytime. I’ll store them up for the next Show and Tell newsletter, which should be in late November.

Fresh from the Dye Pots

It has been a very productive week in the studio. I put together some sock sets on both Sock Perfection and Cashmere Sock. You can see all of them right here in the Kits and Sets section of my shop.

Here’s my favorite:

My son Joseph created this fun colorway, and it reminded me of the dwarves near the beginning of The Hobbit who place their detachable party hoods in Bilbo’s front hall before asking him to take part in their quest. Thus the name.

I also dyed The Winedark Sea, Enchanted Forest, Lothlorien, and Smitten this week. I figure if I dye enough autumn colorways, the weather will turn cooler, right? One can hope!

Here is The Winedark Sea on Buttery Soft DK:

Here is Enchanted Forest on Diamond Silk Sock:

Here is Lothlorien on Squiggle Sock for the first time:

Last of all, here is Smitten on Suri Lace Cloud, also for the first time:

Last Chance to Order Your Advent Calendar

If you already ordered one of my Advent calendars for this year, I thank you! If not, I wanted to let you know that this coming Monday will be the last day to order one.

This year’s theme will be Aragorn’s journey through The Lord of the Rings. Each colorway will be based on a location or event that takes place on his journey. These will be based on the books and nothing but the books.

The kit comes with 24 minis, a full-sized skein on your choice of several yarn bases, Deborah Bowanko’s gorgeous Alsatian Advent Wrap knitting pattern, and the beads for her pattern. It’s quite a process to dye them and package them, so I’ll be starting in early October so as to have plenty of time to ship them in early November.

You can learn more and/or order yours here. The last day to order one is Monday, October 2nd.

I think that’s everything. I hope you have a wonderful week and find some joyful creative time. See you next week!
