Good morning and happy Friday to you! I have some new yarn colorways listed in the shop that you can see right here. I just dyed up one of my favorites this week. It’s Sapphire Dreams on lots of different yarn bases. Here it is on Sparkly Merino Sock:
The main thing I want to tell you about today though is that I’m having a rare sale on art batts in honor of Memorial Day this weekend. Use the coupon code ARTBATTS15 now through Monday night. If you click on the link, the code will be added to your cart ahead of time. If I get lots of orders, it may take a few extra days to get those out to you because we make them when you order them to keep them extra fluffy.
Art batts are my favorite things to spin because you get to experience the texture and softness of different fibers in one yarn. They are great for wet felting and nuno felting too.
One of my all-time favorites is Lothlorien, inspired by the ancient Elven forest in The Lord of the Rings. Let me take you through the steps from art batts to yarn to finished object. Here are my Lothlorien art batts:
Here is a 2-ply yarn I spun using Lothlorien:
Here’s a hat I knit from that yarn:
I have I think 77 different art batt colorways available now, so clearly I can’t show you all of them in this newsletter, but here are a few more favs:
One of the things that makes my art batts a little different is a “secret” technique I use to keep the colors clean and clear but well blended at the same time. Perhaps even more important is the fact that I use all soft, luxury fibers that are wonderful to wear next to the skin.
If you are a fairly new spinner, you will want to be comfortable spinning merino wool before taking on an art batt. If you are interested in learning to spin, I recommend starting with Polwarth or BFL because they are still nice and soft but have a longer staple length than merino, which makes them a little easier to spin.
Have a lovely Memorial Day weekend. Our hearts are with those who sacrificed everything fighting for liberty.
