Project Bags, a New Cowl Pattern, and the Last Day to Order Yarn for the KAL

I have several things to show you this week. I have some project bags for you as well as a new button-down cowl pattern I just published. Also, the last day to order yarn for Deborah Bowanko’s Buds and Blooms Knit-Along will be this Saturday, August 10th.

Before digging into each of these, I just want to say thank you to everyone who has already ordered one of my Advent calendars. I’ve been really pleased to see how many of you ordered the crochet version, especially since this is the first time I’ve had a crochet option.

Preorder for the Buds and Blooms Knit-Along

Deborah Bowanko and Brigit Kok will be hosting a KAL in the Never Enough Lace group on Ravelry beginning on September 1st using Deborah’s new Buds and Blooms assigned-pooling pattern. You can see Deborah’s sample shawl knit in Monet’s Water Lilies along with the other colorway options right here:

You can get the pattern directly from Deborah and the yarn from me right here. You’ll need two skeins of an assigned pooling colorway and one skein of a semi-solid.

Saturday is going to be the last day to order the yarn. Then I’ll be dyeing it up and sending it off to you in time to join in the fun of the KAL on September 1st.

Dots and Squiggles Cowl Pattern

While we are on the topic of assigned pooling colorways, I had the idea for a small project that uses just 20-25 grams of a sock-weight assigned pooling colorway. It’s perfect for your first assigned pooling project or to use up some leftover assigned pooling yarn from another project–like Deborah’s pattern above for example.

In fact, I used the same Monet’s Water Lilies colorway to make it. Here’s the cowl:

The dots are bauble stitches and the squiggles are double-elongated stitches. I included instructions for each one in the pattern. It’s knit flat so the squiggles go up and down instead of sideways, and it is made to button up in a couple different ways. You can learn more about it and find pattern on my website right here or on Ravelry right here.

If you don’t already have a skein of assigned pooling yarn in your stash, you can see what I have in stock right now here, or you can order your favorite colorway from the dyed to order section of my shop. All the assigned pooling colorways have (AP) right after the name.

Project Bags!

This has been on my to-do list for a very long time, so I’m really excited to bring you these project bags!

These are a collaboration between me and a young lady named Maggie. Maggie is the daughter of a good friend of mine, and she’s starting college next week. She is an experienced seamstress who has taught a sewing camp for the last several summers. We talked about what I was looking for in a project bag, and then she chose the fabric combinations and made the bags. My goal is twofold–to provide you with a great well-thought-out project bag and to help her with college expenses.

Here’s what makes these bags great:

  • The fabric is pretty!
  • They have pockets on the inside and the outside to hold all your notions.
  • The bag has a sturdy drawstring to keep your project safely inside.
  • The bag has two sturdy canvas handles so you can carry it easily and also knit while walking. I don’t think it’s possible to crochet and walk at the same time, is it?
  • They are 12 inches tall and 12 inches wide, making them large enough for a 3-skein project but light enough to carry.

Here’s the other design in stock right now:

I should have more of these in a few more weeks, but I couldn’t wait to share what I have with you. You can see them in the Other Goodies section of my shop right here.

Fresh from the Dye Pots

This week has been devoted to making the August club colorways, but I also dyed up Mithril for the first time in a long time. Here it is on So Silky Sock:

It goes beautifully with The Wedding of Aragorn and Arwen, which is also available on So Silky Sock.

I think that’s everything. Happy fiber artistry! Have a great week!
