Good morning and happy Friday to you. I’m going to keep the newsletter short and sweet this week. My focus this week has been on dyeing the Advent calendar colorways, and that’s going well.
However, I took some time off from that to dye up a fresh batch of Peacock Feathers yesterday and today. Here it is on Stained Glass Sock:
Here are a couple samples I knit up to show you how this assigned pooling colorway can work up. I knit the hat on my Addi using plain old stockinette. I knit the square sample using the florets from Dawn Barker’s Float pattern for the top and a double-elongated stitch for the bottom.
I am actually in the process of creating a new pattern that will use one assigned pooling colorway and one “regular” variegated colorway, and I’m using Peacock Feathers on Stained Glass Sock along with a complementary colorway I made just for the project. The new colorway has all the same colors as the “eyes” of the peacock feathers but as a splashed and speckled colorway. I don’t have it in the shop yet, but it will be called Peacock Eyes, and the pattern will be called the Metamorphosis Shawl when I’m done with it.
This is my second sample, which I’m using to work out the kinks for the pattern. I hope to have it published in another month or so. Here’s the WIP so far:
A Question about Colorways
When I was at the DFW Fiber Fest, I noticed a distinct change away from the bright variegated colorways of past years and a movement toward semi-solids and very subtle variegated and tonal colorways.
What do you enjoy using of late? If you had to choose just one of the following for your next project, which one would it be?
- Brightly Variegated Colorway with distinctly different colors
- Subtly Variegated Colorway with close complementary colors
- Tonal Colorway
- Semi-Solid Colorway
- Any of the above so long as there are speckles
Just email me your thoughts if you have a moment please. I’d love to hear what pattern is on your needles or hooks right now too.
I think that is everything for this week. Please join me in praying for everyone hurt by the terrorist attack in Israel last Saturday and for true peace in the region. Stay safe and stay well. See you next week.
