Happy Friday to you!
I had started writing this week’s newsletter with a focus on my new mini-skein sets when I got the word from my poor exhausted hubby that we’re going to have to put off our move for one more week to get everything done at the new house, so I’m going to make lemons into lemonade and use the extra time to have a sale on my solitary skeins!
Mini-Skein Sets
We’ll talk about that in just a minute. First I want to show you some new mini-skein sets I made this week. It has been awhile since I have been able to source mini skeins, so I’m happy to bring these to you now. Each one is a gradient set of five 20 gram sock-weight minis.
I used Splendid Sock for these, which is made of 75% superwash merino and 25% nylon. That means they are great for gradient socks, scarves, shawls, and more. Each 20 gram mini has 92 yards, so the whole set of 100 grams has 460 yards–plenty for a one-skein scarf or pair of socks.
You can also combine two sets for a bigger project or pair a set of minis with a full-sized skein.
The first set goes from white to black with varying shades in between. I’m calling it Objectivity after the fourth colorway from the left.
I love the idea of putting the Objectivity set with Honey Bee:
…or with any of my Stained Glass Sock colorways like Carousel Horse:
Next up is a nice tight mini-skein gradient in Lilac. My usual Lilac colorway is in the middle with two lighter and two darker on either side:
My goal was to create a gradient where one colorway moves subtly and gradually into the next. I did the same with Renaissance Blue too:
I think Lilac and Renaissance Blue would go beautifully together as well–going from light to dark with one and dark to light with the other for knitting, weaving, and crochet.
As an aside while we’re on the subject of mini skeins, some of you had asked me if I am planning to make yarn Advent calendars this year, and I certainly am. I’ll be listing the yarn Advent calendars in September.
The Joys of Moving
As I have mentioned several times, we purchased a house a few months back but decided to do some fairly minor (ha, ha, ha) renovations before moving in. Then Snowpocalypse happened right after we closed on the house. Then it took the seller some extra weeks beyond the agreed-upon time to move out. Then there were no workmen available because they were all very busy repairing the damage to so many people’s houses because of the big snow storm.
Fortunately my husband is very handy and capable, but he is also working a full-time job, so that meant that he has been working from long before dawn on the house most days before going to work, and we have all been pitching in on Saturdays and some evenings too. We were finally able to hire some people to help, and that has made a big difference, but several projects turned out to be more involved than expected, which probably comes as no surprise if you’ve ever remodeled an old house.
Anyway, we had planned to move this weekend, but I just got the word from my husband and the handyman/friend who is working on the house that we need to wait one more week before moving in.
Now, the good news is that I thought this might happen, so I haven’t packed the kitchen or my studio yet–just lots of things we can live without for a week or two. These two cuties are excited about new house.
Solitary Skein Sale
All that said, let’s make lemonade, shall we? Now that we have an extra week, I decided to have a 20% off sale on all of my solitary skeins now through Sunday!
Solitary skeins are skeins where I just have one of that colorway and yarn base in stock. I typically dye yarn in batches of four, and I prefer to wait to dye a new batch until all four have sold so the colorways are most similar. I have lots of different solitary skeins in my shop right now!
It’s a great opportunity for you to stock up on some lovely colorways to use for single-skein projects or to combine for larger projects. It’s also a help to me to have a little less to pack and the opportunity to create these colorways anew in my new studio once the solitary skeins are sold.
You can find all the Solitary Skeins right here. The coupon code will be applied automatically when you check out.
Here are just a few of the skeins included in the sale:
The prices shown are before the 20% off coupon code is applied. I hope you find something you love!
I should mention that this is a local move, so I don’t expect any disruption in shipping at all. It will, however, take a week or so to get all set up to dye in the new studio once we move.
I hope the slower pace of summer brings you a little extra time to enjoy the fiber arts. Have a wonderful week!
