Good morning and happy Friday! Imagine that you are being magically transported to a desert island. The good news is that you will be provided with all the chocolate, coffee, tea, knitting needles, and all the other creature comforts. The bad news is that you can only choose one yarn base to take with you. Which one do you choose?
If I were in this scenario, I can tell you right away which yarn base I would choose. It’s my Buttery Soft DK yarn base!
I only carry yarn bases I really love in my shop–yarn bases that are both very soft and very strong. I’m very particular about the yarn bases I choose because I want you to love using the yarn when you’re making the project, but I also want it to last for years and years.
Buttery Soft DK checks all the boxes. It’s made of extra-fine merino along with baby alpaca and silk, so it is extra soft. I’ve used it to weave and knit, and I’ve never been disappointed. Also, it is a non-superwash yarn base, which means it has a little extra memory for things like sweaters, and you can full it if you like.
Today I thought I would show you some colorway combinations in Buttery Soft DK as well as some patterns to go with them.
Two-Colorway Combos
Most of these are a semi-solid paired with a variegated colorway, but a few show two variegated colorways.
I found a few really lovely patterns from knitwear designers that I think would look great with these. They are all for two different colorways, but some require multiple skeins, so be sure to check the pattern for the yardage needed. The links are to Ravelry, but you should be able to find these elsewhere as well.
- Pressed Flowers by Amy Christoffers – This large shawl uses mosaic knitting and charts to achieve the gorgeous effect.
- Same but Different by Cheryl Faust – This is a bandana cowl that uses mosaic knitting in a unique and beautiful way.
- Killer Queen Shawl by Mary Annarella – This shawl uses slip stitches, and it’s just stunning.
Three-Colorway Combos
Here are a few colorway combinations that use three different colorways.
I found a some lovely patterns to go with these sets of three too:
- Jodi Shawl by Joji Locatelli – This shawl calls for three colorways that fade from one to the next like the three shown just above.
- Frosty Pines by Isabell Kramer – This fascinating shawl has a variety of stitch motifs and a very geometric look.
- Blissed Out by Chic and Regal Knits – I have had this one in my library for the longest time and can’t wait to make it.
- Rockpooling Shawl by Helen Stewart – This shawl also fades from one colorway to the next with the addition of intriguing slip stitches.
Five-Colorway Combo
The last combo I created using Buttery Soft DK is this one below with a set of five:
I found one pattern that I thought would look great with these–The Feel Good Shawl by Andrea Mowry.
If you have never tried Buttery Soft DK, I hope you will, and I hope you love it as much as I do.
Fresh from the Dye Pots
I dyed After the Rain, Annunciation Blue, and Eggplant on many different yarn bases this last week. You can see them all in the New This Month section of my shop right here. Here is After the Rain on Suri Lace Cloud:
I also dyed more of Though the Fig Tree Blossom Not, and I’m still donating 25% to Magon David Adom through the end of the year. Together we have been able to send $266 so far.
Last but not least, I also have some more of the new Christmas colorways. Is there still someone on your Christmas list? It’s not too late if you think small! I made hats for our two youngest using Poinsettias and Deck the Halls:
I hope you have a wonderful week full of all the things from that perfect desert island we talked about–including your favorite yarn base.
