Good morning and happy New Year! I hope you have had a lovely holiday, and I hope you are ready to make something new just for you! I have a fresh new pattern for a fresh new year!
This is my new Metamorphosis Shawl pattern, and I made kits to go with it.
This is a big and cozy four-skein shawl made with an assigned pooling colorway and one other colorway. There’s lots of variation in stitches as you can see, making it entertaining to knit and elegant to wear. I have been wearing mine almost non-stop since I finished it!
The shape is what I call a triangular crescent. It starts with just a few stitches (top middle) and increases on both sides, making a very wide and relatively shallow triangle with gently curving edges. Here it is all laid out from when I was blocking the sample:
You can see how the bottom edge gently curves right here:
The colorways in the sample are Peacock Feathers and Peacock Eyes. I started making Peacock Feathers last summer. It’s an assigned pooling colorway that I made using an actual peacock feather and matching it as well as I could, and it quickly became one of my most popular colorways. The background is a brownish-green lichen color, and the assigned pooling section has all the colors of a peacock feather’s “eyes,” including navy, sapphire blue, seafoam green, and brown around the edges.
I created Peacock Eyes to go with Peacock Feathers for this project. It is a Splashed and Speckled colorway with the same four colors as the assigned pooling section above.
I made kits using these two colorways on your choice of three different yarn bases–Sock Perfection, Sparkly Merino Sock, and Stained Glass Sock. I used Stained Glass Sock for the sample, but I think any of the three would look lovely. I’m including the pattern for free when you buy a kit.
I made four kits on each of the three yarn bases, and you can find them right here.
You can see all three yarn bases right here:
If you already have the perfect yarn and just need the pattern, you can get it here on Ravelry or here on my website. You’ll need 650 yards of an assigned pooling colorway and 760 yards of either a semi-solid or a splashed and speckled variegated colorway to go with it.
Show and Tell Newsletter
Last week I mentioned that I was planning to do a Show and Tell newsletter this week, but I decided to wait one more week in the hope that a few more of you will send your beautiful projects. Thank you to those of you who have already shared a WIP or FO for this month’s Show and Tell! Please email a photo or two along with any pattern info. One thing I never get enough of is your handspun yarn made from Purple Lamb art batts.
The Return of DTO
For the last few months, I turned off the dyed to order section of my shop because things were just too busy, but yesterday I updated the selection and made DTO available once more. It’s there for those times when you need more than I have in stock on a particular yarn base.
A Deep Dive into Blanket Patterns
I decided that I would like to make a blanket using all twelve of the art-inspired yarn club colorways, so I stayed up late last night trying to choose a pattern or pattern type. I think I have settled on making the blanket using mitered squares. That way I can make a few mitered squares from each colorway and assemble (gulp!) the whole thing at the end of the year.
I’ve never done this before, so if you have any suggestions or other ideas for a knit blanket pattern or method that will clearly show each of the variegated colorways from the club, I would be grateful. Better still, would you like to join me in this endeavor? It would be fun to share what we make over the course of the year.
Have a wonderful weekend! See you next week.
