As you all know from my last post, I’ve been hard at work over hot dye pots creating a new collection of yarn based on Jane Austen’s female characters. Well, I’m happy to announce that the yarn is done and in the shop.
I’m so very happy to bring you this new collection that combines a beautiful, silky soft yarn base with the wonderful heroines from Jane Austen’s inimitable novels.
I made eight different character colorways based on the personalities of the characters, and each colorway can be used with the other colorways to make whatever amazing lace project you can think of. I dyed each yarn in multiple layers, which creates a rather amazing glow and richness in the yarn. This is a time-consuming process but so very worth it for the result.
I chose a slightly heavier lace-weight yarn for this because I personally find it less fiddly than super fine lace. The yarn is made of soft merino, silk, and sparkly stellina. The sparkle is definitely there but fairly subtle. This is not a superwash yarn, but honestly, any open lacework project would need to be washed by hand anyway, right?
Here’s a tour of all the characters arranged by novel.
SENSE AND SENSIBILITY
MARIANNE DASHWOOD – the ultimate romantic from Sense & Sensibility who values her feelings above all else.
ELINOR DASHWOOD – Marianne’s sister whose sense and selfless nature focus much more on her mother and sisters than her own but who feels just as deeply if not as openly.
PRIDE AND PREJUDICE
LIZZIE BENNET – the second oldest sister from Pride and Prejudice who speaks her mind and sees the folly in the nature of those around her. Seeing the difficulties of those around her, she is determined to only marry for the deepest love and finds it, much to her own surprise, in Mr. Darcy whose good character is hidden beneath a veneer of pride. Lizzie is my favorite Jane Austen character, so it took three tries to get her yarn just right, because it had to be perfect. 😉
JANE BENNET- Lizzie’s older sister who is kind, gentle, and never sees a fault in another human being. Her gentleness causes her to suffer deeply when her beloved Mr. Bingley appears to no longer care for her.
EMMA
EMMA WOODHOUSE – Self-confidence and loyal to her father and her friends yet a little too anxious to involve herself in the lives of others and a little too sure of her own judgment.
HARRIET – Emma’s little protégé who is pretty, sweet, and easily led (not always for the best) by Emma.
JANE FAIRFAX – The niece of the impoverished Bates family who appears to be simply a proper and elegant young woman but who is suffering deeply from a hidden romance which may or may not end in marriage.
PERSUASION
ANNE ELLIOT – The daughter of a self-absorbed and comically vain baronet who barely notices her existence. She is nonetheless the one everyone goes to for a listening ear and is capable. She has long loved the dashing Captain Wentworth and regrets having declined his offer of marriage eight years before the book begins.
That’s everyone. I made two of Harriet and four of each of the others. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me by email or convo on Etsy. Thanks for looking!
Love the Jane Austen colors. They are beautiful
I love all those colours, I can’t think what they make me think of but it’s something lovelyl
Emma is my favorite. Looks like sweet tarts or spree candy
Thank you, Cindy. I like that one a lot too. Both Emma and Lizzie are a bit brighter than all the rest.
I love the beautiful soft colors!
Thank you, Kim! I really appreciate that.
