Happy Friday to you! Today I have a new yarn base to tell you about, and I must admit that I’m a little bit giddy about it.
It’s called Squiggle Sock, and this yarn base is all about texture.
Squiggle Sock is made of 90% superwash merino and 10% nylon. Its construction is similar to a technique for handspun yarn known as spiral plying. There is a core of yarn around which the other ply is spun at an angle, which is what makes the wonderful squiggly texture. In addition, every foot or two, there is a beehive spun tightly around the core.
As a spinner this is one of my favorite techniques for making fun yarn, so imagine my delight when I found this yarn base that has such a great almost handspun look to it! I’m so excited to share it with you.
I ordered a rather limited quantity to start with to see if you would like it as well as I do. If you do, I’ll get more. Right now though, I started with seven favorite colorways that I thought would look great on Squiggle Sock and work well together.
Here’s the whole collection:
As you can see, there are lots of possibilities for color combinations and fades among these, and it is also very possible to use Squiggle Sock with some other sock yarn bases so you have some of this fabulous texture alongside of a smooth yarn.
The colors above are (from left to right) Party Like It’s 2021, Paris, A Little Princess, After the Rain, Sapphire Dreams, Beautiful Universe, and Enchanted Forest.
I have not had the chance to use any of these yet, but I’m claiming a skein of Paris so I can make a small project with it. It may be awhile, but I’ll show you when I’m done.
Here are a couple colorway combos to consider. (Yeah, that alliteration was on purpose.)
Starry Night in Stock
It has been a terribly long time since I made my version of Van Gogh’s Starry Night, but I’m happy to announce that I finally managed to dye some up. I dyed it on Sparkly Merino Sock, So Silky Sock, and Sock Perfection.
I still have to photograph the So Silky Sock, but I listed Starry Night on Sparkly Merino Sock and Sock Perfection. In fact, I am actually working on a project of my own using Starry Night on Sparkly Merino Sock and my Diamond Twist Cowl pattern from last year’s Eight Days of Easter kits. Here’s my WIP:
Eight Days of Easter Kits
I’m happy to announce that I have dyed up all of the Eight Days of Easter Kits. My next big task is to put together the kits. I wish I could show you the colorways, but the surprise is part of the fun. I’ll include them in a newsletter in a month or so.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend full of the fiber arts. Stay well!
