Fresh from the Dye Pots

This week I have some freshly dyed yarn as well as some new silk chiffon scarves to show you. I also finished dyeing the Angel Wings Ponchette kits, including a few extras.

Party Like It’s 2029

Let’s start with this colorway. I dyed it for the first time in 2020 near the beginning of COVID and called it Party Like It’s 2021, assuming that COVID would be behind us by then. Then I kept moving the date forward, and now I decided to move the date a lot farther forward. Here is Party Like It’s 2029 on So Silky Sock:

This colorway is made of speckles and more speckles. It’s like a party with confetti in a skein of yarn. I made it on several different yarn bases this time. You can get an idea of how it works up from a swatch I made right here:

It goes beautifully with so many different colorways! I included some yarn pairing suggestions in the listing.

Northern Lights

I also dyed up Northern Lights on lots of different yarn bases. I only wish I had managed to dye it before the big aurora borealis “show” that happened recently! Nonetheless, here is Northern Lights on Sparkly Merino Sock:

Party and Northern Lights look great together. I also dyed Northern Lights on both Suri Lace Cloud and Squiggle Sock:

I made a list of some great patterns that use these two yarn bases together a few months back, which you can see right here.

Altogether Now

Here is a fabulous fade in the making with Party Like It’s 2029, Northern Lights, and Monet’s Cathedral altogether on Sock Perfection:

Silk Chiffon Scarves

I had a lovely customer ask me to dye up some silk chiffon scarves for a nuno felting class she is going to be teaching, so I took the opportunity to dye a few extra silk chiffon scarves at the same time. These are light as a feather and the perfect way to add a finishing touch to any outfit without adding extra weight or warmth. In other words, they are great for summer.

These are a new size that I haven’t used before. They are 11 x 60 inches–large enough to be able to style in lots of different ways but not so big that they get in the way. The top left photo is Objectivity, the bottom left photo is Visit to Lyme, and the right photo is Midsummer Night’s Dream. You can see them all right here.

As I have mentioned before, each scarf is unique, so although I can dye up the same basic colorway, each one will turn out differently, which is part of the charm in my opinion.

A Few More Angel Wings Ponchette Kits

This week I dyed up the Angel Wings Ponchette preorders, and I had enough yarn to make a few extra kits. That means that if you were thinking of ordering one and didn’t get the opportunity, you still can! I designed the ponchette using Old Shale with a picot bind-off. Here is what it looks like all finished up:

The kit comes with eight gradient mini skeins and the pattern as well. You can choose between Cozy Sock and Shimmer Sock.

The kits are all dyed up and ready to go, and you’ll get an electronic version of the pattern right away as well as a paper one with the yarn. As of right now, I have 3 kits in Cozy Sock here and 2 in Shimmer Sock right here.

Once these are gone, I don’t have plans to make them again, but I may make a kit using the same pattern with autumn colorways in August of September. Let me if that would be of interest to you.

What Makes the Perfect Project Bag?

I’m working on designing some project bags for the shop, and I’d love to hear from you. What makes the perfect project bag? What features do you love? Do you prefer zipper bags or drawstring bags? Do you like lots of pockets or do they just get in the way? Do you prefer fabric that is fiber-arts themed (sheep, alpacas, knitting needles, crochet hooks) or something more neutral? Send me an email and let me know what you would like to see in a project bag.

I hope you have a great weekend! Happy Memorial Day to you and yours. See you next week.
