Good morning, and happy Friday to you. This week I dyed up the second of the two new yarn bases, and I also want to tell you about the July club colorway.
Diamond Silk Sock
Last week I introduced Suri Lace Cloud, and this week I want to share the other new yarn base I just dyed up for the first time. It’s called Diamond Silk Sock, and it is the ultimate in luxury yarn. It’s made of 100% mulberry silk! It’s a 4-ply sock-weight yarn with 436 yards per 3.5 ounce skein. I named it Diamond Silk Sock because, like diamonds, it is both lustrous and incredibly strong.
This yarn is great for warp or weft in weaving. It’s also wonderful for lacy shawls, cowls, and slouchy berets. Because it is made of 100% silk, I would not recommend using it for socks or sweaters on its own because silk does not have memory.
One of the main reasons I wanted to add Diamond Silk Sock to my line is to have something really lovely to offer those of you who are sensitive or allergic to even the softest of wool, so if you or someone you enjoy creating for needs a wool-free option, now you can get it at Purple Lamb.
I dyed Diamond Silk Sock in 5 different colorways, all of which look great together. Here they are:
From left to right, the colorways are Monet’s Water Lilies, Enchanted Forest, Monet’s Cathedral, Sapphire Dreams, and Beautiful Universe. I just wish you could feel them through your screen!
Here they are separately:
You can see them all right here in the new Diamond Silk Sock collection.
A Few Project Ideas for Diamond Silk Sock
As I mentioned, silk doesn’t have memory, but it does have tremendous drape. That means that it works really well for lacy shawls and cowls. If you would like to learn more about memory and drape, Barbara Benson has a great video explaining it right here.
I thought it might be nice to find a few one-skein projects that would work well with Diamond Silk Sock.

July Club Colorway
We have reached the Post-Impressionist period in our journey through art history, and that means (trumpets sound) that we get to do a Van Gogh! In the past, I have created several colorways inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings. This time I wanted to choose something a little off the beaten path and in a different range of colors too. I chose a painting of his called Vase with Daisies and Poppies for the July club colorway.
I’m looking forward to creating the yarn and art batts for this one. The last day to sign up for the club in time to get the July club colorway is July 1st. You can learn more and join the club right here.
Fresh from the Dye Pots
In addition to dyeing up all the new Diamond Silk Sock, I dyed Monet’s Water Lilies on many different yarn bases. Here it is on Buttery Soft DK:
Also, do you remember Sunrise, Sunset? I still have it in stock on a few yarn bases, but I decided to try again to make a true Sunset colorway, so here that is on Sock Perfection:
I named it Sunset at Sea. It’s just like Sunrise, Sunset but with more purple. It’s amazing the difference one dye color can make!
I think that is everything for this week. I hope you are having a restful and peaceful summer. See you next week!
