And Now for Something Completely Different

A few months back, I did a dyeing experiment. I dyed a skein of yarn in my Impressions of Autumn colorway like this one right here:

Then I dyed a skein of yarn in my Sunset at Sea colorway like this one:

Sunset at Sea

Now comes the fun part. I wanted to use these together, but they were too different to look good side by side, so I dyed what I am calling a “double-sided colorway.”

Normally I dye one side and then steam the yarn, and then I go back and dye basically the same colorway on the second side and steam it again. In this case, though, I dyed one side of the skein using the speckles from Impressions of Autumn and then dyed the other side in all the colors from Sunset at Sea. Here’s how that turned out:

I named this new colorway Autumn Sunset, and of course it goes beautifully with the other two.

This week I dyed all three of these colorways on four different yarn bases–Suri Lace Cloud, Sock Perfection, Stained Glass Sock, and Buttery Soft DK.

These have an autumn feel to them, but not so strongly that you can’t wear them all year long. Here are the three colorways on all four yarn bases:

You can find all three colorways by searching for the name, by looking in the particular yarn base, or in the new Autumn Colorways section of my shop right here.

Here is a sample I knit using all three colorways on Stained Glass Sock so you can see how they look worked up:

I debated about whether to offer these individually or as sets. In the end, though, I decided to list them individually because there are so many possibilities, and I didn’t want to limit your options. You can use all three colorways together on any of the four bases I mentioned above. You can also use each colorway on Sock Perfection, Stained Glass Sock, or Buttery Soft DK with the same colorway on the wonderfully fuzzy Suri Lace Cloud like this:

You can combine the three core colorways with some other colorways for a bigger fade like this:

Or you can use one base colorway like Impressions of Autumn and make a subtle fade by combining it with the three colors of Suri Lace Cloud like this:

As you can probably tell, I’m quite excited about this, and I hope you are too! You can see these as well as the other autumn colorways in the new Autumn Colorways section of my shop.

Pattern Ideas

I couldn’t finish up without offering a few pattern ideas for the trio of colorways. Really, any shawl or poncho that takes advantage of the gradient nature of the three skeins would work well. I’m including just a few ideas here:

Transition from Sparkly Merino Sock to Twinkle Sock

A couple months ago I mentioned that the mill was out of Sparkly Merino Sock and that I was substituting Twinkle Sock in its place–both for regular colorways and for club colorways. If you love sparkly yarn, I’m hoping you have had a chance to try out the new Twinkle Sock. In the intervening months, I’ve come to the conclusion that, lovely as Sparkly Merino Sock is, Twinkle Sock is even better! It’s a plump 2-ply yarn with just a smidge more sparkle, and I am finding that the sparkly lurex shows up a little better with the 2-ply than it did with the 4-ply yarn. Because of that, I’ve decided to making the switch permanent.

That said, I have just a couple more colorways of Sparkly Merino Sock in stock right now, and I’m offering them for 20% off. Just use the coupon code SPARKLY20 or click on this link to have it added to your cart and go straight to the Sparkly Merino Sock collection.

I think that’s everything for this week. I hope you have a wonderful fiber-filled weekend!
