A Raft of New Colorways and a Preorder Too

For the past few months, I’ve been quite busy getting ready for this or that trunk show or festival or dyeing up the things that needed to be dyed. Now, don’t get me wrong. You know I love dyeing yarn, but I have not had a lot of time to just play with new colorway ideas. This week, though, I had the time and the yarn and the ideas all at once, so I got to work up the new colorways I have been thinking about.

Of course I wanted to share my new “yarn babies” with you.

First up is a colorway that was inspired by Homer’s Odyssey called The Winedark Sea. I have been pondering this one for quite a while as I find it so intriguing that the ancient Greeks had no concept for the color blue. I could go on and on about this, but instead I think I’ll just show you the colorway.

Here it is on Sock Perfection:

Next I’d like to show you a sort of new-old colorway that goes beautifully with The Winedark Sea. It’s Durin’s Bane, inspired by the terrible balrog in The Lord of the Rings. There’s red for fire and purple for shadow. I made Durin’s Bane a long time ago, but I changed the way I made it this time.

I love the idea of putting The Winedark Sea and Durin’s Bane together with Lilac as shown below:

Next up is a colorway inspired by one of my favorite composers–Gershwin. I originally created this as a handspun colorway but decided to “translate” it into a hand-dyed colorway this week for the first time. I wanted to convey that wonderful happy jazzy music of Rhapsody in Blue. There are so many colors in this–many more than it would appear on first glance.

I think Rhapsody in Blue would look great with Brilliant Blue and Mithril. Here those three are together:

The next colorway was inspired by and named after Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream. I wanted to convey the magic and delight of the play with a touch of mystery, a touch of earthiness, and a touch of whimsy.

Last time we talked, I mentioned that I have also been wanting to add a few of this year’s club colorways as colorways in the shop. I decided to add Girl with a Pearl Earring as the first one. I love the drama and intrigue of the painting here:

Here is the yarn inspired by the painting:

…and here is a swatch I made using the So Silky Sock version:

Scarves

I still have quite a few scarves and infinity scarves if you are looking for a one-of-a-kind gift that is easy to wear all year long. This one is called Epiphany, and I have three of them in stock now:

Starry Night Preorder through Sunday

Last but certainly not least, I am opening up one last preorder for Starry Night for the year. This was my March club colorway. It’s an extra complicated colorway to dye, so I just can’t manage to keep it in stock all the time. Instead, I offer it as a preorder when I know I can manage the time to dye it up.

This time I’m offering it on Sock Perfection, Sparkly Merino Sock, Squoosh DK, and Quick and Cozy Bulky. The preorder is open through Sunday, December 15th, and then I’ll dye them up the week before Christmas and ship them right after Christmas.

Until next week, happy fiber artistry!
