A Little Family News

Instead of telling you about the new yarn and fiber clubs or all the neat new colorways I’m working on, I thought I’d talk briefly about what’s going on in my family. This may be the craziest week ever!

Today–this very day–our 19-year-old son is leaving to study in Rome for a semester thanks to a multitude of scholarships, and he actually won’t even be back in summer because he has a programming internship in the city where he goes to college the rest of the time.

Also, our two oldest are leaving to drive the 1000 miles back to college tomorrow for their final (aaah!) semester of college before they graduate. One of them even has a teaching job lined up for next year already.

Also this week our teenage daughter is in the third round of call-backs for auditions for the local public high school musical. We homeschool, so she doesn’t go there, but she does know a lot of people there. I’m a bit concerned about how she will keep up with her studies, her dance classes, her piano lessons, and now this musical as well, but it feeds her soul, so how could I say no?

Last but certainly not least, our 2-year-old has dental surgery tomorrow morning complete with general anesthesia, so I’m a little nervous about that. We expect to spend the rest of the day cuddling and watching his favorite–Peppa Pig–as he recovers from the surgery and the anesthesia.

I just got a big shipment of undyed yarn yesterday, and I’m expecting another one within the week, but they will just have to sit there lonely and undyed until Saturday or maybe Monday so I can focus my attentions on all my dear ones and their adventures.

How in the world did the years pass so quickly since this photo was taken? These are the ones leaving for their final semester of college, going to Rome, and auditioning for the high school musical this week!

Please keep us in your prayers for safe travels and safe surgery and just for joyous adventures all around.

  1. Wow—you have a very busy family! Holding your little one in prayer for a safe and successful surgery and praying for your travelers—Rome, how exciting! Also, good luck to your daughter on her audition! Also, sending YOU calm and peaceful thoughts, Carla; while all this is going on around you!

    1. Thank you so much, Pam. Everyone got where they needed to be, and our little one came through the dental surgery just fine. Afterwards while he was still sleeping from the general anesthesia and in my arms, I was struck by how big his hands were. How did 2-1/2 years go by so fast?

      1. Praise God! Yes, they grow up way too fast! My three will be 45, 41, and 39 this year with my granddaughter turning 12! I actually will cry sometimes looking at photos of when they were young, or trying to remember their little voices! Give your little one an extra hug from me!

  2. You certainly have a lot going on! It’s a good thing you have all that yarn to care for next week, as you wind down from all your excitement! Prayers for safe travels for your happy wanderers, and special prayers for your little one for successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
