This week I want to introduce a fabulous new yarn base to you and show you all the pretty pictures, but first I want to tell you about a few other things going on.
First of all, I want to thank everyone who shared their fabulous photos for the Show and Tell last week. It’s always such a delight to see what my yarn and fiber “babies” grow up to become, and once again I got a lot of positive feedback saying how great it is to get ideas for what to make next.
Second, I wanted to let you know that I’m going to be part of a craft fair and bake sale going on this Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on 89A in Cottonwood, so if you are in the area, please do stop by. I have a handful of handwoven and hand-knit items and a lot of yarn. If you plan to come and would like me to bring my spinning fiber as well, I would be happy to. Just email me to let me know.
Next, after showing all of you Sue Booth’s fabulous shawl made from my Starry Night colorway, I decided I had better set up another preorder for Starry Night.
It’s such a complex colorway that I don’t keep it in stock all the time. I’m offering Starry Night as a preorder on both Sparkly Merino Sock and Sock Perfection through Sunday. After that, I should have all the orders dyed and ready to mail within two weeks, which will be just before I start dyeing up my Yarn Advent Calendars at the beginning of November.
I also wanted to mention that Spin Together is going on as we speak. I cannot even express my delight that this is actually happening! It has been a lot of work, but it is also such a joy to see everyone having fun and sharing their knowledge and their beautiful yarn. Normally when I just want to look at pretty pictures of yarn, I head over to Instagram, but this week it’s all there in the Spin Together group on Facebook.
Now, onto the main attraction.
I have spent the last week dyeing up a whole new yarn base that I am completely in love with. It’s called Quick and Cozy Bulky, and it is made of a 3-ply superwash merino that has wonderful “squish.” That’s a technical term, you know. It also has great stitch definition. Each skein has 106 yards, and this is the perfect yarn base for combining softness with speed. Just think how quickly you can make projects for gifts using this yarn base!
For this first “round,” I decided to focus on mostly fall colorways and came up with two new ones in the process. I am just loving the way the colors look on Quick and Cozy Bulky.
Here’s my new Pumpkin Spice Latte on Quick and Cozy Bulky:
Next up is a brand new colorway called Copper Roof:
I liked it so much that I dyed it on So Silky Sock as well. Here that is:
After I made the Copper Roof colorway, I decided it needed a matching semi-solid, so I dyed up another new colorway–Turquoise:
Turquoise is in the same color family as Contentment, but it is considerably brighter. I’m pretty sure this one is going to need to go on a few more of my yarn bases as well!
Meanwhile though, take a look at these three together:
Imagine using Laura Aylor’s Outlier pattern with these three together.
Here is another fairly new colorway dyed on Quick and Cozy for the first time. It’s West Fork in Autumn:
And here is November in My Soul, inspire by Moby-Dick:
Here is Monet’s Cathedral, which I especially love on this yarn base:
Now put those three together, and what do you get?
Wouldn’t Taiga Hilliard’s Color Wash Shawl pattern look gorgeous using these three colorways?
That same pattern would look fabulous with these three below too. From left to right there’s Purple Heather, West Fork in Autumn, and Jackson Pollock, all dyed on Quick and Cozy Bulky.
I have several other colorways, but I will leave you with Sedona, which is perfect for fall. I’ve “tweaked” the recipe a bit, and I like it even better now. How about you?
You can see all the Quick and Cozy Bulky colorways as well as all the other new goodies I’ve been working on right here in the New This Month section of my shop. Have a wonderful fiber-filled autumn!
